The Gospel According to Issa eBook Joan Black
While Issa is a dog, I feel Issa' spirit represents the human frailty in us all. No matter how much we want to do what is right, our sinful nature surfaces. Yet Issa has a good heart and wants to obey his master whom he comes to know as the son of God. We see him early on, quick to doubt and give up, then as he grows and follows Jesus, we see Issa mature in his faith and understanding. Issa possesses intelligence and the capacity to love but we are stretched to believe Issa is capable of far more. We can see ourselves in the dilemmas Issa faces.Joan Black writes beautifully and has a mastery of description in the travel adventures through desert, exotic lands, bustling towns and lavish temples. She brings these places, the people and the animals to life. While most any age can appreciate Issa's story, perhaps a child needs to be at least school age to be attentive and understand. I look forward to sharing "The Gospel According to Issa" when my four year old grandson is a little older. I love knowing Issa along with his animal friends, people friends and hearing his sweet story and he will, too. So will you.

The Gospel According to Issa eBook Joan Black Reviews
Every pet owner knows that there is a special connection between human beings and canines. The love of a pet is truly a blessing from God. Joan Black honors the true meaning of the Gospel while at the same time bringing a unique perspective to the story of Jesus. This book is well written and is appropriate for readers from 18-108. This book transcends traditional religious dogma and gives us true Dogma from the excellent storyteller...Issa
When I started the first chapter I felt a bit nervous, as I'm not a follower of any one religion, though I respect the masters of them all. So I was not in the mood for a story that might try to shove a perspective down my throat. This book was not that kind of story at all. Instead, Issa's tale turned into a wonderful adventure populated with animals speaking their languages with just the right twist to be convincing. And even though everyone knows the ending to the story, it was told in a surprisingly fresh way. I even teared up, because who can resist the loyalty and love of a dog? I was impressed by how this book really did feel like another lost gospel had been revealed. Clever, heartfelt, and a good read.
I LOVE this book! It's charming, sweet, and fun, and made me think about some new ideas! I love Issa! I think Jesus WAS a dog person!
I bought multiple copies to give my office friends. Some of them had to lock it up to keep from reading past the first chapter. Of course, I work with a group of dog lovers, or they will be when they finish the book. -Jan, such a fan.
Issa is an unusual vehicle for this story line, Jesus' beloved pet.
His adventures reference stories from the Bible along with morals.
When I began reading "The Gospel According to Issa," I was at once immersed in the adventurous life of Issa, the beloved canine companion of Jesus. The charm of having Issa's point of view as narrator made the novel more compelling and fun. Dog lovers or not will fall in love with the loyal, yet at times willful and doubtful Issa. Through his relationship, travels and conversations with Jesus, he learns many important lessons revealed in the Bible, of kindness, humility, honesty, trust, and ultimately, he understands the divinity of his Master.
The inclusion of a unique coterie of friends, including Briden the camel and Mosey the donkey, as well as the colorful descriptions of exotic sights, sounds and smells all add to the magical experience of Jesus and Issa. I had a hard time putting this sweet novel down, and it will be read again.
This story of Jesus is told through the dog Issa. It is delightful and touching...being a quick read. I love that a camel, a donkey and birds are messengers that give the story added deminsion.
